Mostly spot on. However, regarding your references to large swaths of prairies having the same representation in congress as crowded cities, recall that the very reason we have both a senate and a house of representatives is to balance the interests of both large open states and small but well-populated ones. States with wide open spaces get the same number of senators but not as many representatives. Without that compromise the founding fathers couldn't bring all the states into one union.
