I applaud your efforts. Since the use of air conditioning will increasingly be required, and the use of grid power to drive all the new units contributes to the very problem that makes them necessary, a solar powered AC unit is a great idea. Even if it takes a 4' x 8' solar panel, many houses could accommodate such a thing without needing to modify their household electricity system.
